Is Butterscotch Hearing Aid a tape label?
Not exactly. For those who don't know, tape labels are those little strips of adhesive that people write on in order to identify a particular audio cassette. We certainly use them from time to time, but it wouldn't be fair to say that we are a tape label.
What is the music like? Is it psychedelic?
As mentioned above, we use labels sparingly, and when we do, we try to be aware of the specific situation, as well as the background and worldview of all persons involved in the discussion. For these reasons, we prefer not to provide this information in a place so vulnerable to misrepresentation and unforeseen prejudice.
Can I order music from this website? Is there a digital version?
At this time we do not have a digital archive of our various projects. You can order copies of any of the tapes listed under "Releases" by contacting kara@butterscotchhearingaid.net with your request. Some of the earlier mixtapes have sold out, but many are still available.
I'm in a band. Will you guys help me release my music?
We do occasionally help with this sort of thing. Many people feel that they have something musical or poetic to offer the world, but have difficulty accessing this beauty within. While we can't promise everyone a successful release, we encourage anyone with feelings like this to contact us. In some cases, we are able to provide assistance, and many of our best relationships, musical and otherwise, have begun this way.
I can't find anything about you guys on the Web. Is this a put-on?
We appreciate your concern. There are many different types of information in the world, and hardly anyone seems to be able to easily navigate the complex and multidirectional streams ‐ some of which have become dominant much out of proportion to their inherent worth. Butterscotch Hearing Aid happens to have been founded at a time when several waves of unprecedented technological changes were quickly altering the way that art collectives and musical activists would soon be researched and perceived, both by the general public and within the culture industry. Butterscotch Hearing Aid has been admittedly cautious about its operations in the midst of this turmoil, but we have remained very active over most of the last eighteen years, and we invite all interested parties to do a little extra work and get to know us a little better. Please be assured that we are, as one lifelong patron put it, "as real as Fingertips Pt. 2."
